D'Amour Library - Library of Things

About Our Campaign

The D’Amour Library at Western New England University (WNE) seeks to raise funds to develop a Library of Things (LoT)—a lending library of items ranging from recreational games to practical tools. Our LoT aims to feature musical instruments, sewing machines, various lawn games, portable technology, jumper cables, snow shovels, as well as craft kits to support the library’s popular Crochet and Craft weekly programs. Students will be able to browse through the collection, checkout any item they want right from the front desk and have fun with their friends (or shovel their car out of a snowdrift).

Today’s libraries are more than just books, and LoTs can be found in both public and academic settings around the world. We would love to bring this concept to campus with your help—the more we raise, the more opportunities we can offer students through our LoT!

How Your Support Will Impact the WNE Student Experience

Your gift, of any amount, will help develop D’Amour’s Library of Things and fund weekly craft programs, to benefit the student experience.

Your Gift Can Make a BIG Difference...

  • 1 gift of $250 will cover the cost of one year’s worth of craft kits for the library’s programs and events.
  • 1 gift of $120 will purchase one emergency jumper cable battery pack.
  • 1 gift of $100 will purchase one portable sewing machine to be able to make alterations in any students’ dorm room.
  • 1 gift of $80 will purchase one karaoke machine with a microphone to showcase student talent.
  • 1 gift of $50 will purchase one cricket set for teams to bat and bowl out in the Quad.
  • 1 gift of $30 will purchase one pickleball set for students to learn about one of the most popular sports in America.

About the D'Amour Library

Many know D’Amour Library as the academic heart of the University. We support teaching and learning at WNE through information literacy, research databases, assignment help, and more. Community members can come visit the library to meet with a librarian, check out a book, print a paper, or relax in a beanbag.

Beyond academics, the D’Amour Library is also reimagining itself as part of the social fabric of the University. Our new regular programs such as Learn to Crochet, Wednesday Craft Hour, Silent Reading Book Club, Mindful Planning, and First Gen Student Meetup, have been a huge hit with many Golden Bears—we almost can’t keep up! The library is building on this momentum by growing through more initiatives like the Seed Library, which was launched at the end of spring 2025.
