Programming & Outreach

If you want the library to provide a craft or activity at a campus event, here is the list of easy ideas and travel offerings! Choose 1-3 depending on the size of the event

Programming & Events

D'Amour Library features several regular programs during the academic year, including Learn to Crochet, Craft in the Clarke, Mindful Planning and Silent Reading Book Club. Learn more about our regular and one-off programs on the Events page.

Quick, Accessible, Portable

The library is happy to participate in table activities for outreach events, both within the library and across campus. However, our ability to do so limited by staffing, scheduling, and available funding and materials. Therefore, we need to limit activities to short-form, quick events.

Here are a few easy to assemble, quick activities that appeal to a broad range of abilities! Crafts and activities are slightly different. Activities are shorter, easier to set up as a side quest of a larger event. Crafts are more time and labor intensive in both setup and participation. We should aim for no more than 1-3 activities per event.

General Ideas you can organize for your own events drop in, short form activities with estimated completion time (Free/Low Cost):

  • Rainbow Scratch Paper (5 min)
  • Coloring Sheets (travel well, free, flexible time)
  • Sand art (5 minutes)
  • Origami, 2-3 simple options with clear instructions (10 min)
  • Scavenger Hunt (passive, runs length of program)
  • WNE trivia worksheet/event-specific trivia (passive, runs length of program)

What the library can provide if we are at a tabling event:

*We need at least two weeks notice and a full list of expected provisions

  • Simple bracelet making with beads or braiding string (5-10 minutes)
  • Origami
  • Seasonal crafts with limited supplies such as Valentines, snowflake making, decorating pre-cut shapes (10 min)
  • Blackout Poetry (5-10 min)
  • Legos

What the library can provide if we are co-hosting an event:

  • Yarn tassel or paper shape garland
  • Collage/vision boards
  • any of the aforementioned activities (2-3 max or ONE in depth activity)

If you have your own idea, please share! We would love to keep a log of our successful activities to reuse in the future!
