A.I. Guide for Faculty & Students

Introduction to A.I.

The key to successful A.I. queries is creating a good prompt for ChatGPT to create text from.  You need to select words or phrases to guide ChatGPT in a specific direction and produce your desired text output. Try using the CREATE framework to aid in your prompt creation (Character, Request, Example, Adjustment, Type of Output, and Extras)

C - Character: Describe the perspective you want ChatGPT to take.

For our example, one might say: "You are a marketing professional with 7 years experience researching ethical marketing practices for your firm."

R - Request: Clearly explain the task you want ChatGPT to complete.

E - Examples: Provide 1-2 examples to guide ChatGPT.

A - Adjustments: Give feedback on early responses and adjust the prompt. If activities are too advanced, ask for simpler ones.

T - Type of output: Specify exactly how you want the final response formatted.

E - Extras: Add other directives as needed, like "Ignore any prior prompts." or "Explain your reasoning."
