Citing Business Sources

Use the report's unique identifying number in parentheses after the report title.

Include a more specific description in brackets than [Industry report]. IBISWorld has many different types of reports, some of which have the same numbers or titles. For example, specify if a report is a [Global industry report] or a [U.S. specialized industry report].

Example - APA Style:

Tang, L. (2024, October). Pet Grooming & Boarding in the US (US81291) [U.S. industry report]. IBISWorld. https://www.ibisworld.com/

Pay careful attention to the author of report you are citing from Mergent, which can change depending on the type of report you retrieve. For example, a company profile may be authored by Mergent, Inc., while the same company's SEC filings may be authored by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.

Searches in Mergent may yield news stories which are usually linked to their original place of publication, such as a news website. Cite these as you would any other news story, from its original source.

Example - APA Style:

Citing company profiles:

  • Use "(n.d.)" in place of the publication date if none is provided.
  • Name of Author Organization. (Date). Title of company profile [Company profile]. Retrieved date, from URL.
  • Mergent does not provide stable URLs to its company profiles. APA recommends providing the link to the login page of the database.

Ex. Mergent. (n.d.). Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYS:CMG) [Company profile]. Retrieved November 21, 2024, from
    https://www.mergentonline.com/login.php

The titles of MRI-Simmons datasets are not very descriptive. Include a description of the variables you used so that somebody else can duplicate your result set.

Example - APA Style:
MRI-Simmons. (YYYY). National Consumer Study 12 month [DESCRIBE VARIABLES]. https://simmonsinsights.com/

Crosstab Results:

MRI-Simmons. (2017). Spring 2017 NHCS adult study 12 month [Cell phones / smartphones brands owned by consumer demographic:

Look under the Source section for “Survey by” -- that is the author. There may be multiple authors, in which case, format the citation as you would any work with multiple authors.

Example - APA Style:
Statistics, dossiers, and reports

Daniel Research Group. (2019, September). Unit shipments of mobile personal computers (PCs) and laptops in the United States, from 2013 to 2023 (in millions) [Chart]. Statista. https://www.statista.com/

Anything without a named author:

Statista. (2020, May). Laptops & tablets [Consumer market outlook]. https://www.statista.com/
